Hydor Koralia evolution vs. Maxi Jet power heads run on a red sea wave timer

I have had a red sea wave timer for years now, it has powered 4 maxi jet 1200's for about 2 years now. Maxi jets 1200's move about 300 gallons per hour and last forever. But with the fire power of the new Hydor Koralias offer, which is up too and above 1400 gallons per hour, I have been enticed to give them a try. So on Oct. 10th 2010, I purchased a Hydor Koralia evolution that pushes 750 gph, it is running off of my red sea wave timer. So far, I have to say I'm pretty impressed. My first impression of the unit in the tank was pleasing, it is only a little larger than the small maxi jets, but it comes with a magnet mount, which blows away the stock suction cups of most brands. I hope the Hydor can last the test of time, I will up date weekely and then monthly of its performance, and its start up noise. Until now, only maxi jets have withstood the on off cycles desired by reefers. How will Hydor do? lets see!

  1. this hydor koralia evolution is kickin butt. It is on a waver timer, every 150 seconds it goes on or off. I will post up next week on its quality, I hope it stands up to the test.

  3. Ok I got to ask Hydor about thier products last Saturday. They now offer a 2 year warranty on their pumps/power heads, even if they are run on a wave timer. They redesigned the unit to take more abuse, and I can atest to this, my Hydor evolution is still working fine to this day. But I was informed that the Magnums by hydor are equipped with a chip that offers a gradual start, this improves the life of the unit, and makes its start up totally quiet. So there you go, I will up date my Magnum also in another post forum and occasionally here too. Hope this helps.
Maxi jet is 2 years plus and still flawless
