Every shaping room has its own positives, but some are simply better than others. My best room is twenty feet long, with a twelve foot ceiling, and is ten feet wide. It is a dark blue to cast shadows over the surfboard, the blue paint does this by absorbing the light. The lights are side mounted ten feet apart, the floor is a nice soft cushion, and the ceiling has a good power vent fan. The side lights are mounted 39"s above the soft floor, and the shaping racks are 38"s tall. Above my lights are a 10" shelve, these direct the light only at the surfboard, while serving as a nice tool rack above. You will also need plenty of compressed air, a few electrical outlets and a real loud stereo system. Do not let any external light in.
If you do not have much space to work with, don't freak. I have worked out of rooms as small as 8' x 8 x 10'. The ability lies in the shaper to make a surfboard, the room is merely an extra tool.
Anyone have some Ideas?
